Commission a Portrait

Troy is currently working from a studio based in Piazza Santissima Annunziata in the historical centre of Florence, and is available for commissioned portraiture. He cherishes the opportunity to capture a sitter's likeness, creating a beautiful and timeless piece of art that celebrates their life. Troy prefers to work directly from life, utilising his training at The Florence Academy of Art and Charles H. Cecil Studios. He has a special interest in simply designed but superbly executed portraits, that explore with great sensitivity the honest visual impression and deeper psychological aspects of the individual. A distinctive characteristic of Troy's work is a high level of realism when viewed from a distance, and a more playful, painterly mark making when viewed up close, which showcases the beauty of oil paint.

How it Works

A session runs for 3 hours. The sitter will ideally pose for 25 minutes at a time, taking 5 minute breaks in between each 25, and a longer 15 minute break in the middle. If a sitter has particular needs that limits their ability to follow this structure, a comfortable alternative can be created. A minimum of 7 but ideally 10 sessions are recommended to create a high quality life-size portrait of the head and shoulders, measuring 60 x 50cm. Larger works including hands and background elements can be arranged in direct conversation with the sitter, and will require additional sitting time and independent studio time without the sitter present.

In lieu of creating the painting in Florence, and only where feasible for both parties, Troy is available to travel to the sitter's place of residence and create the portrait on location.
